Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers!
We evacuated on Friday following orders from Pete's command. For once the military did something very helpful and forced us out ahead of other mandatory evacuations. We are staying with my mom in north Louisiana. The usual 4 and a half hour trip took us just over 6 hours, but traffic was nothing compared to what people experienced today. We will probably still feel some of the effects of the storm here, but nothing like what will be happening at home.
We know that the outer bands of the storm have reached our neighborhood and a tornado has already been reported about 15 miles away. The next 24 hours will be long as we wait to see how intense things really get. The projected storm surge for our area has decreased from 15-24 feet to 10-16 feet with an estimated 10-15 inches of rain expected.
This is all quite surreal for us. I truly feel for those who just rebuilt from Katrina. I don't know that I could do this too many times - it truly is exhausting!

Thanks so much for updating. We are so glad you are at your Mom's, we have been thinking about you all day. The kids prayed with Debbie for you all in LA and the storms path this morning at church, it was really sweet.
Glad you out and safe and with family. We're with friends in Birmingham, loving the opportunity to visit with them. How did you find out about the tornado near your area? Is a neighbor staying behind?
